If u google meaning of gray dealers these are not authorised dealers and they don't provide u with the warranty from the manufacturers. Anything wrong with the watch, u send back to the gray dealer u bought from. But if u buy from overseas AD, they are the authorised dealers of the manufacturers and provide u with the 2 yrs international warranty. Anything wrong with your watch eg Rolex, u can bring to RSC in SG and they will service it. So lets not confused gray dealers with overseas AD, they are not the same.
I think rolex do not offer dealership to any gray dealers. The gray units we always find for sales are actually watches from EU AD. Because of the recession and VAT deduction from EU. Sellers are able to bring in and sell them for a small profit. They are still AD sets from EU.

hmmm so grey dealers' overseas set warranty will not be full 2 years based on MY date of purchase? I'm unsure.. maybe some grey dealer can offer that? anyone can shed any light on warranty dates for overseas set from grey dealer?
That why to be fair watches from oversea AD will be slightly cheaper in grey market.

first post! been reading alot recently as i am planning to get 1 rollie soon!
am confused about the overseas AD selling to grey dealer then we buy from grey dealer... how does the warranty works then?
grey dealer buy from overseas AD , warranty of the watch should start already?
then we buy from grey dealer here... the warranty won't be full 2 years?

seems like many ppl are going for grey sellers since there's effectively no difference in the warrranty and the set, the only consideration is getting a fake which can be mitigated by a check at RSC
i see local private sellers mostly selling higher end popular and sport models. i also wondering where are all the not so popular or cheaper models go to? we seldom or don't see them in local grey market. if can get good discount and good price, a basic model like Airking or DJ is good buy for daily beater.
these gray dealers may be regular customers of the overseas ADs
eg they may be buyers for shops in their own countries
so they get good discounts from the overseas ADs + government tax rebates = can sell the bnib watches at lower prices than local ADs
i guess u may have misinterpreted my point... supposing you're the AD & u only have limited stocks of 1 or 2 daytona or DSSD per month, and there is a long waiting list of your VIP customers wanting to buy it at retail price. why would u still want to sell it to the grey dealer?
there's one burning question in my mind about grey dealers that i hope experienced folks here can help to provide some insights:
my understanding is that grey dealers typically get their stocks from ADs who need to meet sales quota and thus have to push stocks to grey dealers. however, it seems that grey dealers' stocks are mainly popular models which the ADs should not have any problems selling at all, and these are the same models that ADs say have a long waiting list. so if the ADs already have a steady demand for these popular models, and supply from rolex factory is limited, then there is really no need to sell to the grey dealers to push sales. assuming my first statement in this paragraph is somewhat valid, it seems that i'm missing something here.
thank for your inputs. So as long as the watch is genuine, the rolex service centre will consider the warranty based on the warranty card.
So, technically there are no disadvantages if you buy a genuine way from Grey market dealers.
