Good thing is that Rolex only comes from one factory
So in actual fact, there is no difference
Used to heard from some buyers when I try to sell a BNIB rolex
They asked if it is make in HK ????
I dunno to laugh or cry.......

don't apprehend the local vs overseas. In sg, we deem a AD in Europe as overseas AD.Originally posted by jetfixation View PostThanks for the warm welcome. The wealth of information here is mind boggling =)
Thanks too for the insight. I actually travel a lot and do understand that many countries that have good tax rebates that can lead to much better prices than local ADs.
Will be reading more so I can learn here. But overall it's very unlikely a overseas AD will sell fakes right? Or would I need to send it to the service centre after I return to have it checked?
In Europe, they deem an AD in APAC as overseas AD.
Sounds simple? Don't really matter as the source is only one..

it also depends on the seller......maybe seller is holding the price very firm and not willign to entertain any negotiation. It also depends on whether the seller is reputable or new. Which is why the saying, buy the seller and not (only the watch).

I think this is the correct thread to ask my concern as well.
Current I am planning to get at 116613LN, the price I got from one of the commercial watch dealer in this forum is about 1.8-2k cheaper than AD(after some in house discount). But my dilemma is getting from commercial watch dealer, is the watch as genuine as from AD? I know it just me simply cannot overcome the hurdle. If I can get some assurance that this watch dealer is reputable (with many bros/sis) also buying from them and their stock is as genuine as ever. I will not hesitate and go down the week after next to buy from them (the are close next week). Just in time for my Christmas.

Hey guys!
First post here
I looked at the garage sales and see people selling their brand new Daytonas at around $14+K but still not many takers. I'm believe the local ADs sell at closer to $17+?
Isin't $14+K for a Black 116520 brand new with full papers from AD (albeit overseas) a relatively good deal?

I'd be glad to share n I love sharing, but not openly over here as I think this will be very sensitive topic...Originally posted by larry88ps. daytona - if it's possible to get daytona at list price, i am sure many fellow bro in the forum would be keen, then please share the lobang.
Btw, it was also share by another brother in the Daytona Sticky Thread recently...
Well, well, well...
Lets get back to topic as in why is it seems that local AD watch(selling, asking higher price, etc...) than to OS AD...

i thought the discussion here is relating to perceived higher resale value of watches bought from local ADs vs overseas AD

Some watch buyers want the "AD" experience and peace of mind that what is bought is genuine and complete. Of course the watches may cost a bit more, as the AD has higher costs to operate than grey sellers. If buyers don't want the "buying experience" offered by the local ADs (not dissimilar to drinking coffee at Starbucks compared to kopitiam), then go for the best price the market has to offer.
BTW, for first time buyers from grey sellers, the booklets could be in languages other than English. These booklets (manuals, etc) can be exchanged to your preferred language at RSC without costs.

owners who bought their sets locally probably paid a higher price than those who bought overseas or from grey sellers, and therefore when selling they also hope to not lose that much, and therefore may try to advertise at higher prices than overseas sets. however, the final selling price is still a question, whether were they transacted at asking price, similar price as similar overseas sets, or even lower than similar overseas sets, that is really something we do not know. to me, it is just a perception that local sets are 'valued' higher than overseas sets just because some sellers list theirs to ask for higher prices.
i think forumers here would have done their necessary homework before deciding to shop for watches on sg-roc.

Nice example on the 10700 with different senerio...
Wow... wow... I feel its a bit harsh on the ignorant n gullible... Everybody starts learning from the day u were born n still learning to the day u die...Originally posted by larry88It's from the ignorant and for the gullible.
(eg, I bought my daytona SS from Europe at list price, which none of the SG ADs would sell you at).
As for SS Daytona, u will be surprise that now u can get a black face at list price n some discount for the white face from SG ADs...
Read a comment by bro Oceanklassik... Thumbs up....
And Ive this fren told me he dun mind paying the few hundreds to a thousand more sitting in a local AD, serve with hot tea, try as many model as he wants, having in mind the watch he already decided b4 he walks in...Originally posted by Oceanklassik View PostThere are many reasons as to why some people still prefer to buy a local set. Some maybe ignorant, but in most cases that I have seen, ignorance seemed to be the least encountered.
Other reasons include ease of payment, ie instalment scheme, where most local ADs provide at interest-free. Another is the ease of purchase and availability of aftersales service. On top of these, there's also the relationship built up over years between customers and their ADs.
There is no hard-and-fast-rule whether one should purchase from a grey dealer vs AD. If you have the cash in hand, you tend to save more if you buy from a grey dealer. As long as there is a way to authenticate the watch and you do not mind the hassle, I'd say, go for it!
To add to your curiosity, there's also people who buy not from the grey dealers; not even the ADs, but from the brand boutique. So is this the even more 'ignorant' lot? Ponder, ponder..
So, is he ignorant, gullible, or stupid? This I really cannot answer... To each his own...

Why are there new watches in (SGROC) Rolex Garage selling so cheap? Even cheaper than HK.
Can anyone advise?

most of us do not collect watches base on location of AD, right?
Iam even surprised there are such collectors around even if they are the minority. The watch is the same, the quality is the same. Value also the same. Why the preference over them versus overseas AD sets?
