Same sentiment here too. But i do cast a vote for the 116520 and 16610 for the bro for his first watch. This 2 cannot never go wrong.Originally posted by 116520 View PostI started off with the old sub because 8 years ago, there were no ceramic sub yet... I would have started off with Daytona if I could afford it back then...
But act fast before the price hike.

I hope I am not prudent to add in my comments. For entry level, sub or explorer 2 are my preference. As a noob, I hope seniors here can share with $4.5k or less, it is possible to own my first explorer 2 with cert and box with no lug holes?
Cheers

another noob opinion if u guys dont mind. i vote for either sub or gmtII. i agree with the previous bro that the first watch should have a date. and i feel that if u go for the highest end model (daytona) it kinda spoils the fun cos v hard to like the lower models aft that. =x lol. furthermore, personally i wouldnt have a daytona as my daily-beater. abit heartpain and 2ndly u wont have e enjoyment of a "dress-up" watch for special events.
just my 2 cents!

Not prudent. It's good to know how people think. What you seek is still possible if you are lucky enough. I beg to differ. In a way, you may put it that the Daytona is "highest end model" of ROLEX, but I feel that no fun is spoilt because it is a different watch from the "lower models" after all. If you look at a Daytona and Submariner, you can see the physical difference very clearly, as compared to a Seadweller and a Submariner. Also, the Daytona is not a diver's watch, whereas the Seadweller, DSSD and Submariner are. IMO, no, getting a Daytona as a first ROLEX watch is unlikely to "kill joy"..Originally posted by redneckk View Postanother noob opinion if u guys dont mind. i vote for either sub or gmtII. i agree with the previous bro that the first watch should have a date. and i feel that if u go for the highest end model (daytona) it kinda spoils the fun cos v hard to like the lower models aft that. =x lol. furthermore, personally i wouldnt have a daytona as my daily-beater. abit heartpain and 2ndly u wont have e enjoyment of a "dress-up" watch for special events.

I think most preowned expl 2 are priced closer to the 5K range, but maybe with bit of disc, may be able to do it at your price. Why not try looking at the rolex garage in this forum.

1. paperless exp2s can be found for 3k-3.5k with some digging through ah pek shops. not superb condition, but at such prices, that's to be expected.
2. i think daytona is not officially/really positioned by rolex as their "highest end model"...“Watches, no matter how much they cost, are better at telling time than making a person happy.†- Thomas J. Stanley

I have to agree with this sentence. A SS Daytona is definitely an everyday watch & not some "function events only" watch.Originally posted by Oceanklassik View Post... IMO, no, getting a Daytona as a first ROLEX watch is unlikely to "kill joy"..
I've been wearing it almost everyday & if the only kill joy I can think of is tearing of parking coupons, must refer to my hp for date!Current
