Hmmm...it's probably an aesthetic thing, the dial looks more even with the numbers 3, 6, 9, 12 complete.
To me, if the 3 is replaced with a date dial, it looks incomplete.
Strangely, I'm less particular if the date dial is at the 6 O' clock position.
That's how I feel, at least.

Very nice, Day! I am also a fan of Longines & so were my great grandparents, grand parents & my dad! I even have my grand dad's military Longines with me, I had it serviced at JW a few years back & now it's working perfectly; only problem is a 34mm, which is so tiny for modern standard!

I prefer the Sports Legend but at 38mm, it's still small. Well, maybe it isnt that bad, the IWC Mk16, GO PML & AP Millenary are at 38 too.

Think GO PML (listed as 39.4mm) and IWC Mk16 are 39mm
