personally i wont get a sony for a start. olympus not too bad.

personally, go for nikon or canon where there are more consumers. this is because when u start off in photography, usually kit lenses are ok. but as your progress, you will realise that you want to get better lenses. hence you can opt to purchase preown ones to play with before buying.

you may want to consider lumix as they using leica lenses for some models. leica produces pretty good lenses.

i started with a canon during the film era. so naturally i progress to canon DSLR due to pricey change of lenses if convert to nikon.

i aint guru. just a hobby

Thanks. Perhaps I have narrowed down to just 2-3 choices.

              1. Olympus
              2. Cannon
              3. Lumix

Depending on which can serve the best while capturing movement shots bah, also which one throws in the most competitive package.

all three can handle movment shots, it depends on the technique, skills and settings on camera.

base on competitive package only if you think you will not ended up being a prosumer. this is because what currently gives u competitive package may result in you in spending more in future.

my observation is currently based on the past 2-3 years experience. the price is pretty stiff aka not much discount. then they tempt you with accessories. u have to look @ more important issues such as the technical specs. compare mega pixel to mega pixel. if they tempt you with bigger memory card, tell them forget it unless it is twice the size minimum. since memory cards are pretty cheap these days.

                  Hi,

actually most DSLR in the market can serve you well, the more popular brands are Canon and Nikon of course.

DSLR and consumer/prosumer compact digital camera are very different. Key differences I can think of now are:
                  1. Weight/Size: DSLR is much more heavier and bigger than digicam. may pose a problem for some if going for long trip.
                  2. Lens: Unlike digicam which has fixed lens that can reach from 24mm - 300mm (for example), you may need to bring a couple of lenses for your DSLR. The lenses will take up more room and weight you down.
                  3. Video: Some of the DSLR can't take video, though more and more models can do it now. so if u need video function, do take buy those that can do it.
                  4. Addictive: It is also addictive, if you are hooked, you will spend and spend and spend to buy more accessories, lens, bags, tripod etc etc -> more $ and less $ for Rolex.

go to www.dpreview.com the site has very comprehensive reviews for most of the dslr

enjoy the hunt for ur dslr

                  cheers

                    Bro,
                    3. i heard that never to get DSLR which have video mode because it will shorten the lifespan of your camera ? I am not sure.
                    4. Yes, I will think that this is also another hobby as addictive as buying watches. Less $ for rolex kekekekeke. wat to do, got to work doubly HARD liao lor.

I think i will get Olympus E-620 !!! any brothers has negative feedback on this model / bad experience before ?
