i never blame him, and unless the dealer has very high and fast turnover, he will be forced to offer you the price that you have been offered.

Just think of it this way..... you buying a gmtII for 8k, and expect to sell for 10k. assuming that it cost you $100/wk to maintain the space for that particular watch, you only have 20 weeks before you hit cost overrun. ie. the price you pay + holding costs = selling price.

Anything after that, you are losing money.

That is why dealers offer you something much lower....... say 4.5K that way, if their turnover not very fast, they still have room to play. If they move stock in quick succession, say, within one month, then they make money.

they have their reasons for offering you $950. first of all, they have to spend time touch up.... that would set back about $100, then you have to keep in mind that, what he buy today, he wont sell today, therefore everyday that he bring in/out of the safe and display in his shop, it cost him (for arguement sake) $100/wk..... per piece.

you will be quick to see that the price of $950, actually not being worth it for him.

factor in interest rate, for the time that the $950 would have earned him if he left it in the bank.

Its quick to see that he may be living hand to mouth. This goes for ANY business, you buy something, markup and hope that you can sell within 30-60days.

For a shop to take in your 6694, he would have to be quick to sell it within 45days, otherwise he will reach his breakeven point, and very fast this watch will be a burden to him.
