  • U.S. price on PAM

Traveling to SF next month. Is the price at the ADs comparable to SG after ex rate?

One thing i found out about buying watches in the US. Prepared to pay the sales taxs whether you are a local there or tourists.
Different states charges these tax differently. Like in NYC, it's gonna cost you 8.75%. This is non-refundable. Not like in Europe, where you can get a VAT refund when you leave the country.

this is because it is a state imposed sales tax, and not a federal tax.

It's kinda like Hougang charging an additional tax on top of GST. GST you can refund at changi airport, but not the Hougang tax.

If you read watchuseek forums, US watch enthusiasts would rather buy in europe. US prices don't seem competitive to me.

I think only OREGON does not have a sales tax rule there, correct me if i am wrong.

Even if prices are comparable there is the risk of 7% gst being levied on your return to sg.

                Not worth the trouble.

For US, if u need retail therapy I suggest head to the numerous outlets to shop for clothings, shoes, etc.

Even with sales tax, do you know if it is a practise for US AD to offer discounts?

Yeah, looks like it is cheap if you have lobang with U.S. pre-owned watch dealers.

@Satch: Isn't buying watch part of retail therapy too aside for some people who take it as a hobby? Hmm...at least it is therapeutic for me And yes, outlets are always part of my travel plan whenever time permits.
