Think the best we can do is just be careful and not wear unappropriate watches when heading to less lawly places. usually when I'm headed to places which are a little bit more 'messy' I'd usually wear my Exp I, as the watch is smaller , less noticable and doesn't grab as much attention of course unless you're from the Rolex forum! Most people won't recognise it.

Agree, avoid entering by all means (especially with your love ones) unless really really necessary! Why save the few dollars on petrol/food/groceries and subject yourselves to robbery or injury?....it's not worth it...
