Some relevant information...
According to the sales person, the gold portion on the SELs (solid end links) are solid gold pieces and not plated. Same goes for the bezel. However, the other gold portions on the bracelet are brushed gold plates:

The prices at the ADs are controlled. The prices of ROLEX watches outside of any authorized dealer (AD) is "free-for-all" to decide.
