  • Buy Nautilus Jumbo or Daytona 116520?

    Hi there,

Been planning to buy my next goodie watch...

Its a difficult choice between a Jumbo PP Nautilus and a Black Dial SS Daytona?

Daytona 116520 - $17K (sure can get from AD!)
Nautilus 5711 - $23K to $29K (depending on grey dealer or BNIB) AD is quoting S$36K.

    Disadvantage of repairs:
PP will cost like S$2K - S$4K to service
Rolex will cost S$1K for overhaul

    In 20 years time:
PP will cost like S$8K to restore
Rolex will reject - due to vintage liao, no parts - haha

In 10 years time, which will be THE watch that you never regret buying? and PP Jumbo may cost like $50K in future and rolex probably $25K due to inflation but anyone that have both watches can share your experience of owning these watches.

I like both...buy both? haha S$50K - But i have been a big fan of rolex thus i am in this forum.....

have not own a PP but i have AP....superb expensive to service compared to rolex just like Saab compared with Merc.
    My Rolexes and Tudor...

ROLEX. Unless you really like the ugly look of the PP, then choose the latter to pay for its branding.

My vote goes to the PP 5711/1a , I've own both the 116520 and PP 5167 .
I'm Also thinking of getting another 5711 .
BTW i dun think PP watch are ugly , its like a piece of fine arts when you hold it on your hands , If they are really that ugly , dun think they can sell so well all over the world .............

        Forget both.

Get the 5712/1a. For another 10K more than the 5711, you get a lot more 'watch'. In 10 years time, this is the watch people will think of if they want a nautilus.

Agreed that the 5712 is a nicer watch ,but i somhow prefer the 5712R , But the price can buy me a small jap car , Why not take a look at the 5146 , IMHO its a more value for money watch with all the fuctions of the 5712R + annual calendar .
Btw was at Contina yesterday looking at the 5146, and was quoted 42k for it .

Either way you will probably get both eventually : )

I find the 5711 doesnt go well for weekend casual dressing whereas the Daytona is probably more versatile. I don't have a Daytona yet ... but looking around for either an APROO or R116519 (not rushing coz a 45mm Daytona shld be due soon ... even the DJ got bumped up).

The great thing about the 5711 is that it is 43mm yet very thin. So if u have Pams or other chronos/44s, the 5711 is an excellent rotation.

Maybe I can help on this...as for parts. Rolex will keeps for 30 years after discon of the model, but parts can still be found outside. That's gonna depend on luck of course.

Thanks for all the advice ...Rolex or PP.....tough choice but both are magnificent make watches ...will still look see if can get a good price.

BNIB Daytona is around S$15800. AD will have to pay S$17K. if only can spot 1 at airport ADs....when travelling....at USD$9600 -

Wonder if HK is a good place to buy but got bad stories of swapping fake after they show u genuine at HK AD for China customers previously. not sure of the risk to buy there. Better buy in Singapore to boost economy...haha.
