The baseline collection I would start with,
          1 chrono
          1 Dual time zone
          1 perpetual calendar

As for the brand and value, your budget determines it !

              How many watches are enough?

The question that lies deep inside us all even if we struggle to answer it but all being said and done being honest how many is enough? I have 3 but am thinking 5.

              A daily beater/work watch
              A weekend leisure wearer
              A tool watch
              A dress watch
              A perpetual leather band

IMO, it depend on the individual lifestyle.
If it's just to keep with times, 1 or 2 is enough.
If use it as an accessories to match special outing, 3 or 4(abt to be poison)
If having a passion(some called it deeply poison) for timepiece then there is no limit as long as your deep pocket allows.

IMO, I think one watch is enough... just trade in or sell ur current watch then upgrade to another watch.
I just help my gf change a few battery for her watches and start to think, why she need so many watches...

For the style conscious, u need different watches to match your dressings, colors, functions.

Deepsea, Submariner i think is a great all-rounder. U look great in T-shirts, bermudas, biz shirts, pants, jeans. If i can only have 1 watch (should budget permits), this is my preference.
