again when you guys say that there won't be any Rolex selling for under 10K, it is speculation, but I chose to agree because in 5 years time maybe. right now Rolex would want to retain models below 10K to cater for a different group of consumer.
Again It is just my thought.

jagain that is ust my thought.
You do have a choice as a consumer but right now, there is a waiting list at every AD, selling at premium for the GMTIIc. you can insist on a new piece all you want cos the AD will just simply sells that piece that you rejected to the next in line. They won't insist you to make any payment for the next shipment cos they don't know when it will be in and also the next buyer will be happily parting his 11K to the AD for the piece you rejected.

Thanks! He is right in a way cos no one will want to buy an entry level Air-King for above 10K. Back in the old days where Rolex cost only $500 but back then average salary were like $1000. Prices will continue to increase due to supply and demand, raw material cost, inflation, etc. It will come a time where S$10 can only get you a bowl of fishball noodle at the hawker centre...

could anyone enlighten me about the prices of gmtIIc, as i understand that it is going for a premium above list so how much is this premium? If as gather from the other threads that one day the price of this model will be down when the hype is over, will it be a drastic drop? Bear me, very new to rolex and trying to gather informations . Thanks

The list price of the GMTIIc is S$9554. The current premium above list that most AD quote from S$10.5K to S$11.6K, depending how well you know them. Stocks are very low and so people are placing their name in a waiting list. The wait can be as long as 6 months.
Hypothetically, if the demand for GMTIIc died and AD has lots of stocks and no ones buys from them, they will normally gives discounts from 10 - 15%.
                    Does this enlightened you?

Thanks for the info. Thought of buying my 1st rolex and am thinking if price will come down later. How does rolex watches hold its value if one day I should sell it off? well I suppose it depends on the demend and has it been traditionally worthwhile to collect rolex?

Sadly enough, watch prices increases every year, 5% to 10%, depending on models and brands. When my brother bought his GMTII 8 years ago, he only paid S$4K for it. There are some Rolex models that will not appreciate alot overtime as it is common and lots of supply in the market. Buy a Rolex that you'll love to own. 5 years down the road and the price might have increased by 20%.
Hypothetically...You bought a GMTIIc for $10.5K. The current list is S$9554. Fast forward to 5 years later....the list of the GMTIIc could be S$12.2K (based on yearly 5% increase). Given that the model is not popular anymore, AD gives you a 10% discounts, the price is S$10974. so you never really lose any money or your watch has depreciated.

thanks for your explanation. I am deciding between gmtIIc, sea dweller or explorer II. I am overseas and there are stocks here. care to comment on the above in terms of prices and value?

                            1. GMTIIc is the priciest among the 3. Price above list.
                            2. Sea Dweller selling at list as they are going to be discontinued at the end of the year.
                            3. Explorer II, discounts of 10% for the black dial and 15% for the white dial.
Each watch model has its own merits and value which I can't judge or comment subjectively. I have an Explorer II, GMTI and GMTIIc because I like the GMT hand which is very useful for me when I am travelling and I also like the look of the GMTs.

Explorer is easily available while sea dweller is discontinued. Is s$7700 okay for the sea dweller? or pay a little more over here for the gmtIIc?

Go with your heart. which one do you like best. Between the SD and GMTIIc, GMTIIc wins my over the SD as I don't like the overall look of the SD. This is my personal feels about the 2 models. Try it on your wrist and compare. Sees which one stands out.
S$7700 is a good price for SD.
