  • Is a Rolex like a Vertu?

Do you roll your eyes when u find out someone bought the following?

-Vertu Mobile (9k) vs Nokia (500)
    - B&O speakers (10K) vs Mordaunt Short Genie Speakers (2K)
-Hermes birkin bag (10K each) or LV bag compared to Bonia (100+)
-Cartier Love bracelet in gold (5.9K each) compared to Poh Heng bracelet (700, same weight)
-Bvlgari 1 carat diamond (30K) vs Lee Hwa (10K)
    -Porsche Boxster vs Toyota Altis

Do you go, "u r nuts!"

But dont u sometimes feel that your Rolex is in the same league? As an overpriced watch? Or do you see it differently? How do you respond when pple go "r u nuts?"

then, would u pay 50k for a patek watch which just tell the date and/or time?

at least rolex has models for diving, etc.

i do agree that rolex watches are overpriced. probably one of the brands that does not need advertisement to sell watch. other one can think of is patek.

panerai has come a long way since the 90s. back then no one wanted to buy those watches. now? they are commanding prices such high prices.

at the end of day. what im trying to put forth is that if you feel that you like an item, you will pay for it.

people can tell u otherwise, but it does not make any difference. my friend does not understand why i would pay say 6k for a rolex.

yah. It's nuts... but then, what isn't?

So long as rolex can keep 90% of its value/my purchase price... maybe even appreciate... I don't have too much issue with it.

There are few hobbies/interests that keep their value when you want to turn it back into cash.

well i guess to each of his/her own.....

i used to marvel at one of my colleague...she's was wearing this franck muller watch which cost more than 10k..... and i went 'are you nuts?'.... that was long before i got bitten by the watch bug....

guess now...when my colleague asked me how much is that thing on your wrist and when i tell them...they'll say 'are you nuts?' ....

in some ways they are similar......more of a 'want' rather than a 'need'.....
