I saw via web...... Rolex Ref 2940 Stainless Steel Bubbleback Vintage Circa 1944.

Or Rolex SS Oyster Perpetual Circa 1953.

Is Passion @ Funan Ctr reliable?

i saw Peng Kwee in lucky plaza had some really vintage ones...
but they're not cheap. You also need to do your own validation.

Bear in mind that given the age of the pieces you want, you will need to find a realiable watchmaker ... either RSC will charge you a big premium to service watches >25yrs, or may outright decline to.

Passions is ok ... do they have anything that old?
If not, talk to Shawn at Heirloom Gallery in Riverwalk. He specialises in vintage pieces.

Was told that RSC will not service any watch > 30years old. Is it true?

Not true. They will service all watches, but only keep parts for 30 yrs. Then liddat ppl can throw away watches older than 30 yrs lo..

I see. That was one of the reasons why I didn't get a GMT I. Thought the shelf life for that will be short since it was manufactured in 1992. Already 15years old liao...

unless im mistaken. it is from the time they discontinue, 30 years onwards. so 2007 is when they discontinued the GMT Master II 16710. so most likely 2037 is when they should run out of parts.

however, im sure there are independent watch repairs who can do the servicing for you. however, the parts..........

I had a chat with the head service technician of one of the major brands recently (who doesn't want to be named).

He said that as a rule even for them, they don't fix anything locally older than 30 years... not only because they don't stock the parts, but because the necessary machines/lathes to make required parts are in Switzerland. That's why they send it back.

So I think it is still a better bet getting models that have been out for ages, like the sub date. Chances of them being discontinued is less...
