Have just joined this forum and need some advise on the a/m

A casual friend offered to sell me his "rolex king" ref:16238,

Details:
1) 18k gold "day-date" with diamonds on the dial.
2) It has rectangular diamonds at the "6" n "9" position
3) Bracelet not saggy
4) No visible scratches, dings
5) Overall condition good,abt 8-8.5/10
6) Price $17k neg

Was assured that every part is original and can verify at RSC before buying.

Question is - Is the price reasonable or can I easily get a much better price elsewhere?

Really appreciate any advise from all you experts out there.....

I believe you are talking about serial 18238 not 16238 because 16238 is for Datejust and your description mentioned is a Daydate.

Frankly, the price is no more than 13.8k if the conditon is fantastic and unpolished.

Here some pics for your reference too(not exactly the same model as you mentioned but quite near already...). The newer number system used after 2000, added "1" in front of the old 5 digit(now got even newer serial number system with alpha-numbric or something...).

Yup, its definitely a Gold Date-Day aka president. Only diff is that it has a gold face and the bracelet is rather short.

Just to check, how many links does the bracelet originally have?
