  • Need Advice: New discontinued Sub 16610 or the new ceramic Sub

    Hi all experts,

I would like to seek an advice on whether to get the old discontinued Sub 16610 or a brand new Ceramic model? Which one should I get as I only can get one piece at this moment?

I really can’t decide which one. I like the old sub that makes it classic but I also like the new ceramic design of the model.

Any information you could supply would be helpful. Thanks!

the old sub looks better due to the more streamlined case design
the new sub c looks like a square with the enlarged lugs and crown protectors
the new sub is a direct copycat of the gmt2c but the gmt2c doesnt look as squarish because of the oversized bezel numbers
i dont know how to describe the new sub c - it just looks weird

if you like the classic design of the old sub, get the dssd, it looks alot more like the old design, but on steroids

looking @ your thread title, it says new discontinued sub or new ceramic sub.

hard to find a BNIB 16610 now, if you can, you will be paying a high premium price.

you should ask yourself, which one you prefer as it is your money. which one looks better on your wrist and which one smiles @ you.

unless you are asking which has more resale value say 5 years down the road. it will be 16610(BNIB) as it is already discontinued especially if you can lay your hands on one.

if you are sourcing for BNIB 16610 (prepared to pay premium), pm me.

These 2 watches are quite different actually, the LN is a slightly bigger & heftier watch compared to the 16610

The 16610 feels lighter on the wrist making it easier for various activities, swimming, cycling, shooting & repelling
while the LN is much more solid, not only due to the case size, the hollow bracelet plays a part too.

In short with the price difference of around $3k you get a ceremic bezel, anti glare coating on the crystal,a maxi dial, bigger hands, blue lumi, tougher crown, heftier casing
solid bracelet,a much more user friendly clasp

I like all the improvements,it just makes the LN a much better looking piece, but among all the adjustable clasp is much appreciated,I wore a 11 links bracelet on the old model but a 9 links bracelet on the LN .And my wife can wear it too without having to adjust the clasp using toothpick.

As for comfort,I am still used to the 16610,may be I have been wearing it since my army active days till now.

I will go for 16610 first; like the feel and its out of production. I can get the subc anytime as it is current production. enjoy what u like....
Just another small small small small watch user ....

Since you like the more shiny ceramic bezel, that's the one to go for.. The watch head with the newer bracelet and Glidelock clasp wears more comfortable and give better wrist presence too..

Have you tried both on the wrist?

Get the 116600. It's a nice update to the sub. The old sub was made for 30+ years and I wouldn't say its difficult to find a nice condition 16600 down the road since so many were produced and for so long.

I don't think the ceremic bezel, improved bracelet and maxi-dial justify the premium of the 116610 over the 16610.

I would say get the 116610.

16610 is lighter compare to the 116610ln. And smother and rounder in shape which gives it more dressier appeal.
Larger markers and solid steel construct ( new ones are 904l)on the 116610 are all enhancements that makes the watch sportier.
IMHO I go for the 16610 as it us very much a classic design that had withstand time.

Bro, go with your heart...I was torn between gmt2c and sub c but decide to go with gmt2c ...however I alway feel that I will never go wrong if I buy a iconic model from rolex which is the sub. Like u, again it's tough to make a choice again between the 2 sub. The old sub is a classic and dressy watch while the new sub is bigger and more sporty...however after doing some research , I pulled the trigger on a 16610 , as what bro triton say, be prepare to pay a premium if u can find a BNIB 16610, but the most important part is that this successful model remind unchanged for more than 30 years so u will never go wrong cos its proved by Rolex. Anyway , just my 2 cents worth of opinion .....end of the day....go with your heart.
