  • Maintenanace Advice for an 80s onward DJ.

Hi all, I am pretty new here in this forum.

Would like to hear from the seniors over here on how it is like to maintain an 80s onward DJs?
and perhaps what are some of the important components of the mechanism that could be of detrimental effect to the movement for close to 20 yrs of usage?

I am currently considering to start off with a pre owned rollie. Any suggestion of dealers to get in touch?

    Thanks alot!

      Hi Heng,

I am looking at getting a pair for my parents. They prefer the classic look of DJ and the newer model are out of my budget.

      Thanks.

As far as I know...the watch with the least (don't quote me hor) maintainence is Rolex. My mum's datejust has been fine for over 15 years and running well.

Also...the cheapest in maintainence of (most) of the luxury brand watches. Try Patek, AP...you may get a free heart attack when you see the bill and servicing costs.

        Rolex. You can't go wrong.

Should it need servicing, you can service it outside (if you trust them) at probably a fraction of the cost, but if not it's about $500 or so to service suppose no issues. But I stand corrected.

You will be amazed that movements that are 40-60 years old are working fine...your trusted workhorse.

            Yes.........totally agree with Bro darkangel.

Ever own Lange, sent back just to change the crystal and regulate the timming.(NOT OVERHAUL)

            Waiting time is 7 month,and it cost $2,664 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Many watch tech told:Rolex is the most easy to service and get parts(except those very old one)

Recently my EXP 2 & DayDate only cost $790 & $980 for overhaul.

And i have no worry for the next 5 years.

As for Bro EMboss, would suggest you to go for 16233 & 69173.

To me this 2 model is abit underprice now.

If you lucky, you might get both watches below 7k.

thanks all for the generous input of knowledge and experience. Looks like getting a good old rollie is worth while since servicing and parts are widely available.

Bro Heng, you mean both time piece for below 7k? or just the DJ 16233 alone?

You go www.eBay.com and key Rolex 16233 & Rolex 69173.

You will be able to see the watch.

Try to get your watch at this forum, cause is cheaper.
