Official Explorer Thread!

Hi all Rolex gurus... as I am still a noob to Rolex watches. What I have bought is the current Explorer II shown at www.rolex.com aka Official Website.

My question is - How do you differentiate the Explorer Model? I mean, there is X, M, F or whatsoever.

As I have bought from a used dealer shop, beside sending to authicate it @ Rolex Orchard, any other precautious measure I need to take note of?

Could any kind soul explain this. Thanks a million.

The serial letter and number of the watch is engraved in the chapter ring at 6 o'clock but for older models it engraved (hidden) at the end links of the bracelet.

The serial letters is used to identify year of production of the watch :

I would think that you should do a waterproofing test at a minimum with the watch authentication. additionally , depending on how old is the watch, you may want to consider servicing.

I'm new to Rolex as well, and have been eyeing on the Explorer II white dial.

From what I gather, preowned sets range from around 4-5k+.

How about new ones? From the various threads, new list price is $8337/-.

What would be a good discount for the Exp II? Any lobang from fellow bros here as to which AD to go for?

Look at there the red hand points to on the outside bezel; now you will notice the time will be reflected in 24hr time.

You can also use the red hand to show a different time zone if i am not mistaken

Just got mine yesterday, it's about 26 hours old now.

So far so good. Though I miss my daily beater watch: Orange Monster

The red hand is the 24 hour hand - you cant set that to any timezone as well. In my case, it's singapore time for the regular hour hand and I set the Red hand to the 24 hour time.

that way, when i travel out of singapore, i always know what time it is in Singapore.

Don't travel much so I set mine to the Singapore time zone so it works like a AM/PM indicator. Useful to me in resetting after it has run out of power reserve. Me lazy to keep turning the hands until it date changes ...
