  • Another great hobby

It is great to know that there are so many Singaporeans that love to collect watches.
Besides collecting watches, do we have alot of people that collects watch pictures?
I don‘t mean in pictures of your own watches.
But pictures of the watches that are being sold in the forum. Noticed that there are a few of them here that love to do that.
They are the same ppl that message the seller to request for every single angle of the watch and for every watch that is posted in the sales thread.
Wonder why they want to do it?
I mean I love watches, thus I take pictures with my watches, but not into the extend of asking for pictures for every single watch that is posted on sale.

Your feedback will be greatly appreciated, thank you.

Hi there, To me asking for picts at certain angles ie front, back and side , helps me as a buyer make a decision to pursue the meet up or move on quickly to avoid the long distance traveling ie from east to west to see and only be disappointed by the end product..

If as a seller I will usually stop after 3 shots and request from the person and request to meet up if he/she continues to ask for more angles. simple reason is better see the watch physically to determine the conditions.

So really it depnds on how you view the request and deem the photo request is reasonable or not. because unless it is BNIB stickers all intact.. everyone has a differnt view on the condition rating.. ie you rating condtion of an 8 may be my 9 or maybe the other way around since it is subjective.

Do you mean they asked for photos with no intention to buy the watches??
Sorry to sound rude.. but imo this "hobby" (i see it more like a bad behavior) is sick.. like perverted men whom like to collect soiled undies.

haha, since you know who they are, why not ask/PM them directly why they love to do this?
and let me know who they are, so that i will not be wasting my time if i want to sell my watch in future.

i have received request to take photos of movements from interested buyer but after sending them the photos, they din even bother to reply at all,not even a THANK You for me to purposely find a caseback opener and open it up to take photos.

the PM i received is as quoted

"Hi I'm interested in the watch.

How many turns to fully tighten the crown? And is it possible to show movement pictures? As I'm concerned with movement rust and pitting.

Otherwise I'm ok with getting the watch from you.

        Thanks."

All questions answered and all photos provided and just diappear into thin air and that interested buyer can still continue post his watch for sale and dun even bother to reply!

It could be that they took your pictures and use it as their own when they put up their watches for sale. That is why it is good to put water mark on your pictures. This is one of the things I learnt from this forum.

I don't think people ask for pictures of very single watch on sale, and do that as a hobby. I tend to believe such people are genuinely interested to buy, just that they are unsure most of the time. One thing I definitely agree is that, at least let seller know your final decision after receiving the pictutres. It would also be nice to tell seller why you have decided against buying - it doesn't really matter to the seller, but more a courtesy thing.

Should buyers not ask for pictures unless they have decided to buy, and only ask for pictures to verify the condition? Basically I agree with that, but then more often than not the decision to buy depends a lot on the condition of the watch. Buyer's mentality might be, if I can step in any shop to view the items and leave without buying, why can't I ask for pictures to view even when I am not certain of buying? Part and parcel of selling online.

I have sold quite a number of watches over forums, but have not come across people asking for picture of watches from certain angle. Maybe that is due to that most watches I sold are of quite good condition and I always mention the condition in term of %, if there are dings/dents, age etc, and post one or two pictures. I always feel that a good sales thread should come with a/some pictures of the item on sale, unless, as someone said, the item is brand new and picture can be easily googled.

As sellers I think its best to post a few more pictures initially.
If can post one, can post a few more.

For those who choose to send pictures on a request basis.
Take a few more one time and can send all at a time.

I Believe most of the people requesting pictures have some degree of wanting to buy.
However, opening to take movement pictures is something over imo.

Sorry not to state that they are asking for pictures fir BNIB watches.
                Condition is not a concern.
They simply collect pictures as a hobby.
I truely think they are sick and they urgently need to see a doctor.
I do not know if it is correct to post all their handphone number here but as a great seller, I think I will not do that at the moment.
But if they request somemore pictures again, I will not hesitate to do it.
Those sick people should know who you are and my advice is to stop asking for pictures as part of your hobby and than post it online as part of your collection.

i wont open a case back to take pictures for potential buyers. if they want to know, i will tell them the condition if i know. otherwise, i will tell them to meet @ a watch technician of choice because it will show the sincerity of them wanting to buy and secondly they can see it for themselves and see if the movement is original or not.

and i agree that a basic reply - thank you. i will not buy or i will meet you to deal would be good.

recently, i wanted to buy a watch so i ask the seller to reveal the first 2 digits of the watch. seller responded. i said thank you. wanted to think about it. the next thing i know, it is sold.

yes, placing water mark on picture is good. however, it needs to be placed strategically, otherwise, it can be crop off or remove. however, there are ways to remove the water mark.

usually if i want to buy a particular watch from member, i would request certain shots. as i usually buy with warranty papers/card, i would request the watch be taken against the paper/card with current newspaper. part of the number on paper/card is covered by the watch. if the post only states the information of the watch, i would request such a shot.

the purpose of this shot is to show that the seller has the watch on hand.

other shots i request is to see the general condition of the watch to see if it matches the description as stated.

why such shots? this is to save seller and buyer time to meet. sometimes, i go see the watch which is rated as 85% by seller but is not my expectation of 85%.

I dun understand y some sellers post their wts thread without photos n say photos upon request.

U dun lose anything by just posting the photos directly on ur thread wat. If fact u may attract the attention of someone who was planning to buy smthing else. U nay lose potential sale cus buyers may not bother asking for photos from u loh. Cus u make it sound like u yayapapaya like that want ppl to contact u just to see photos.
