  • Advisory : Good deals on luggage

    Hi folks,

Happy Dragon year 2012 to all ROC members!!!

Any advise to see a wide range of luggages and most important, get a good deal as i need to get one for my coming 8 days Taiwan trip.

I am not going for those high end type as check in luggage are often thrown around during check in hence can't bear to pay hundreds of dollars for airport staffs to throw around,

Any reliable, durable and reasonable brands to recommend and place to get besides shopping centres like Tangs etc....

    Kum sia all,HUAT ARH!!!

cant say where to get good deals, but try not to find one that has a thick plastic lining. its clumsy, heavy, and not very practical.

currently using this and find it suits my needs very well.

you can try people's park complex and people's park centre. quite a variety of shops, price range wide and reasonable. as usual walk around and gauge pricing first.

for me, if the country i am traveling to is not in raining season or no breakable items inside, i just use a duffel bag which i buy from golden mile hawker centre aka army market.

I think it is a subsidiary of samsonite. I owned a few pieces of its luggage. Fairly high quality and durability. I like the price point too.

American tourister is a sister brand of samsonite..I noticed that samsonite seems to be repositioning themselves upwards with more better designs, and pushing American tourister up to fill the gap it previously left. One of the samsonite models which I bought few years back has been rebranded as american tourister.

I guess it is ok to buy as the pricing is quite competitive. If u want better quality ones, prob consider the likes of rimowa nd tumi..

                      Tumi is expensive to me.

Can consider victorinox. As good but cheaper.
Both brands are generally quite heavy .

Regular brands like sansonite, delsey etc are good enough.

no chance to try tumi luggage, but i can say, the victorinox bags are pretty heavy. i got a wheel/backpack hybrid, and just the bag alone is 6kg, then you have the "spine" down the centre that is curved, thus making it difficult to anything other than clothing.

Tumi every time I see see only. Like the classic design, but not the price tag.

Victorinox I prefer the 2 bar models over the single bar.
Put in laptop and stuffs easily over 10kg. Heavy and solid.

I use a tumi bag for my daily work and victorinox two wheeler roller bag for biz trips...quality is good but not really indestructible...

Tumi has a lot of frayed threads on the inside near the zips ...and a few zipper end on the victorinox broke off.
