I dont think you can get full links for old watches usually becos the links, box and waranty can be sold for cash.
Even Rolex sticker can be sold!

IMO paying 30K for a 118239 pre-owned is too high.

should be around 20 to 21K plus depending on condition.


For the benefit of all reading,here is the summary of the various day date models and movements:-
1956- 6511, 1st Day Date!!!
1957- 6611, 2nd Day Date, 1055 Movement.
1959- 1803, 1st 1803, 1555 movement.
1965- 1803, 1556 movement
1977- 18038, caliber 3055 (single quick-set), sold late 1978/1979.
1988- 18238, caliber 3155 (double quick-set).
1999- 118128 same as 18238

Caliber 3155 is the caliber still used today in all Day-Date models.

I'm looking for these to complete my collection:-
1) a 1956 model 6511. Very rare because it lasted only for a year.

2) a 1957 model 6611, 1055 movement.The first to be labeled " Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified" on the dial.
This new accuracy standard guaranteed the watch to remain within + 3.0 seconds per day.

3) a 2006, 50th anniversary Day Date model 118348.

Ian..... whenever you write about DDs.... it always has a rub-on effect on me..... i guess the DD has made it's way into a corner of my heart during the short time i had it. The history & heritage of the DD still captivates me today.... thanks to you.....

30k plus for a 118239 is way to high. Should be about 20 plus k. I think late Z onwards then got rolex engraving inside. That the only diff between earlier version 118239 and newer version 118239. There another model with round bezel instead of fluted bezel. Anyone know what the model?

Smooth bezel should be 118205, 118208 and 118209 respectively for rose, yellow and white gold. Also, the more recent models have the updated clasp. I was also told the earlier models of 118205 were rose gold, whereas the later series switched to Everose Gold hence the reddish colour is slightly darker. The later models also will have the hologram on the crystal.
